The Heart Messenger

Having Forrest at preschool is giving me some much needed Summer time. She is on fall break from her school for three weeks. I can't tell you the last time she and I sat on the sofa in the living room, just the two of us. Not that we never did... It's just that we would be in such a rush with her coming home from school, ballet practice, homework, dinner, bath, and then in bed to start this routine all over again the next day. These days however we can take over the sofa all to ourselves right in the middle of the day. We read books, watched movies, and played games together. Just the two of us.

This picture of Summer is so cute. I just love this girl so much. The other morning I woke up to find this card on my bathroom counter. It was made for me. The heart she cut out and the edge fringes are priceless and her writing and words are so cute. This is one happy girl.

I am going to keep this little card forever.

It's good to be 5!

Summer kills me. Seriously she makes me laugh all day long. Today I sat outside with the kids as they rode their bikes around our driveway. Summer was out of control. She was pedaling soo fast on her little makeshift stationary bike. She kept pushing herself faster and faster with her legs and then would lift her legs up in the air (she was getting very tricky) all while screaming, "This is awesome!" I was dying! Then she got quite clever and turned around to go backwards. I couldn't get a clear shot because I couldn't keep the camera still because of my laughter. And let me say, she didn't think it was funny. She was totally serious, just like her daddy on his stationary bike. This went on for a good hour. She's a keeper.

Grandparents

This past weekend my sweet parents who we call, Granddaddy and Grams, came to our home for a visit. We miss them already. We had an amazingly fun weekend. The kids were in heaven. We went to the lake for a day of sailing. The next day we rolled up our pants and touched the ocean with our bare feet (granddaddy's wish). Lots of sweets were consumed. Pretty much a perfect weekend.

Happy

My girl and I had quite a lazy morning. Still in our pj's, we dropped off Forrest at preschool and then headed straight back home for some serious down-time. Summer played games on the computer in our family room and colored in her favorite coloring book on our front porch. She snuck my lemonade from the counter and added a pink straw for herself and kept the snack basket stocked for herself. Angelina the ballerina was on TV and I did lots of laundry and organizing and breakfast dishes. Besides missing our Forrest, it felt like the good old days and we were both very happy.

My Kindergartener

This morning I said good bye to my Summer before Kindergarten and told her to have a fun day and that I would miss her while she was gone. She looked at me and said, "Mama, just get your camera and take a picture of me and then if you get sad you can look at my picture and you won't be sad anymore". How could I pass that up?

Summer has been on a roller coaster of emotions lately. I am sure it has to do with starting Kindergarten. Lots of changes around here. I have just been trying to take it in stride. One day last week she was upset with me because I did one pony tail in her hair instead of two. She had a complete and total meltdown. We were running too late for me to redo her hair. The whole drive to Kindergarten she sat in the backseat sobbing. I told her that this was a little crazy. As soon as she calmed down, before she got out of the car I pulled over and had her come and sit on my lap up in the driver seat. How could I send her out the door like that? We talked about some different ways she could have handled her disappointment in her hairdo. I told her that I would do two pony tails in her hair the next day and that either way, she looked beautiful. She calmed down, I gave her a kiss and out the door she went. I think things are settling down for her now. She is in more of a routine and is loving Kindergarten. I just hope that my Summer will always know that her mom loves and adores her.

The blue and pink backpack arrived this past weekend and she has been admiring it since. To say she was excited to put it to use this morning would be an understatement.

Take the Lake

Last year David heard about the Take the Lake event at Lake Waccamaw and he knew right then that he had to do it. It takes place on Labor Day every year.

Clocking his time... David swam 4 miles in 2 hours and 8 minutes.

Summer and Forrest ran to give their Daddy a big hug when he got out of the water. I sure love this guy.

And, I must add that david signed up for another swim event. The Pier-2-Pier swim race at Wrightsville Beach next weekend. It is true that this guy never stops doing what he loves... swimming.

Lunch Bunch

Forrest's lunch box is a big deal. The red and blue box is all the rage with this one. At his preschool they have this sweet "Lunch Bunch" for those who want to stay and eat lunch after preschool. It is just for one hour and a couple of dollars but it is a big deal for Forrest. Forrest loves it when I pack his lunch right next to Summer's in the mornings. He really does feel grown-up. I really love this little three year old.

Cousins

These two adorable kids are my niece and nephew. Their mom is my sister, Hope. For Labor Day weekend, I had them come over to our house to have the cousins spend time together. We took lots of pictures and these four pictures were my favorites of the four of them together.

I really love these kids. When David and I first got married it seemed like we saw them every month. It was so fun for us. I would also take them out by themselves on little dates. I still think of them as those same little kids even though clearly, they are not so little anymore. My kids love their very grown-up cousins, Brooke and Cole. I love them too.

First Day of Preschool!

Forrest had his first day of preschool today. He goes to a five days a week preschool. It is just what he needs to feel grown up like his big sister but still gets lots of time with me at home in the afternoons. Last night as he drifted off to sleep, I told him "You have a very fun first day at school tomorrow..." He gave me a huge smile and said, "My school!" When I dropped him off at his classroom this morning he found that two of his little friends are in his class. I love this little boy so much. My Forrest Logan. He is growing up and I love it but want it to slow down all at the same time. I can't imagine life without this little one and his huge kisses and hugs. I am one lucky mama.

This morning before loading up Forrest in the car, he ran out to the yard playing "airplane", flying with his arms. This is just so him. The first picture is my favorite because the one-eyed-pirate look is one he sports often. An awfully cute pirate if i say so myself. Here is to a great school year!
